A woman from paradise

When we talk about role models, who comes to your mind? Some politician, freedom fighter, actor, or actress. We have so many role models in our Islamic History, but, sadly, we are unaware of many of them.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) is our best role model. Many of his companions-both male and female are also Heros of Islam.

Today, I would like to talk about a lady who was granted glad tidings of Paradise,  twice in her life.

Barakah bint thalabah was an Abyssinian slave. She was bought by our Prophet's grandfather Abdul Muttalib and she was given as a wedding gift to Abdullah, our Prophet's father, and his mother Aminah. Barakah provided support to Aminah at the time when she was alone. Aminah had a dream of some lights shooting from her abdomen and lighting up the mountains, hills, and valleys of Makkah. Barakah predicted that Aminah would give birth to a blessed child.

When the sad news of the death of Abdullah came Barakah couldn't control herself. Later Barakah nursed Aminah back to health until the baby was born. The baby was named Muhammad by his grandfather. According to Arab custom ,the baby was sent away with Halima and he was brought up in the desert for 4 years.

Barakah became attached to the child. Amina went to visit Abdullah's grave. She then became ill and died. Before dying she told Barakah to take care of the child and not leave him alone. Then she became his second mother. Barakah was there with Muhammed in the face of tragedies.

Even after he grew up and got married to Khadija, she lived with them. He called her 'Ummi'.

Barakah later got married to Ubaid ibn Zaid and had a son named Aiman. Hence she began to be called 'Umm Aiman'.

She was one of the first people to declare Shahada. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told her:"Indeed you have a place in Paradise.

She also migrated to Madinah with much difficulty. Muhammad(PBUH) again proclaimed glad tidings of paradise to her.

She played an important role in the battles, nursed the wounded and gave water to the thirsty.

She cried bitterly when Muhammad(PBUH) died.

Umm Aiman was a Sahabiyat who looked after and served Muhammad(PBUH)from his birth till his death.

May Allah be pleased with her -Ameen.
