First Ten days of Dhul Hijjah
This year's Ramadan is over and the next golden opportunity has come for us-The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah.
On these days we can increase in our good deeds and expect more rewards. Although everyone knows the importance of Ramadan ,many are not aware of the virtue of these days.
Deeds that can be increased on these days-Fasting, increasing dhikr, doing more voluntary acts of worship, giving more charity, repenting. Fasting especially on the day of Arafah is considered very good, as it expiates the sins of the past year and coming year.
In Surah Al Fajr ,Allah (swt) swears an oath upon these ten nights. This indicates their importance. The Prophet(saw) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbih(Subhan-Allah),Tahmid(Alhamdulillah) , Takbir(Allahu Akbar) and Tahlil(La ilaha illa Allah) during these days. The day of Arafah is the 9th day, which is very important as it is the day Allah perfected His religion.
Udhuhiyah(Sacrifice)
Another act of worship which muslims do, is the Udhuhiya(sacrifice) of cattle(sheep, cow, goat, camel) for the sake of Allah to please Him.It is done after the Eid prayer and can be done until the sunset of the13th of Dhul Hijjah. The meat is divided and distributed in 3 parts-One for family, then relatives or friends and for the poor and needy.A person can do it in behalf of his family. The person who intends to do so,must not cut his nails,or trim his beard or cut his hair.
These days are a time for us to pause, reflect and repent for our sins.Learn to forgive, purify your hearts, let go of grudges and sever any broken ties.Do Sadaqa, not only in terms of wealth but also helping others by words ,doing lots of dua. Increase in recitation of Qur'an.
Let us look at the sunnahs of Eid Ul Adha-
Ayammu Tashreeq-These are the three days after Eid al Adha.(11,12,13).These days are known as the days for eating, drinking and remembering Allah.
May Allah help us to take advantage of these blessed days.May He accept from each one of us , forgive our sins and make us among those who earn his pleasure..Ameen.
